Turin - professional soccer player Alessandro Del Piero sued the social network Facebook.
An unknown person created a fake profile of the star of Juventus and linked it to sites with Nazi propaganda. The profile had given the impression that Del Piero sympathize with the extreme right.
The original is outraged and wants to allow no connection to fascist content. He appointed his brother and manager, Stefano Del Piero, in the case.
This told the Italian news agency ANSA, take legal action against Facebook. The professional would be in any way with National Socialism or Fascism associated. The fake profile would prejudice the impeccable reputation del Piero and his management would exhaust all legal means to protect the image of football.
Protecting yourself against misuse of their name on social networking sites like Facebook or MySpace is hardly possible for celebrities. Since the identity is not checked, anyone can create profiles on famous names. Even for Alessandro del Piero, there are numerous Facebook profiles.
